What you need to know about Immortals — Virtus.pro’s first opponents in Cologne

The Brazilian guys call themselves a family. Their insane AWP player and wunderkind, who can do anything, is a threat.

Who are Immortals?

Immortals are representatives of the Brazilian Counter-Strike scene, who have been lacking some space in their home region recently. Last year the Brazilians have won Northern Arena 2016 – Toronto and iBUYPOWER Masters 2016, having outplayed all the opponents from North America. There were some changes in their roster recently: Lincoln "fnx" Lau (ex-SK Gaming) quit due to internal differences and was replaced by the young and talented Vito "kNg" Giuseppe. Answering to HLTV.org’s question, Fernando "fer" Alvarenga called him a candidate for the breakthrough of the year.

How have they been performing lately?

Despite the roster changes, the team from Brazil has significantly improved. Unlike unsuccessful 2016, in 2017 Immortals placed 3th-4th at IEM Katowice 2017, 2nd at DreamHack Austin 2017, and 3rd-4th at Subaru Invitational 2017. The team’s last result at a LAN event was the 3rd-4th place at DreamHack Summer 2017. Immortals outperformed SK Gaming and mousesports in groups and then lost to fnatic in the semi-finals with a score of 1:2.

Intel Extreme Masters Season XI World Championship was a breakthrough for Immortals. The Brazilians defeated Astralis, NiP, fnatic, and OpTic in groups. They turned out to be stronger than North in the playoffs, however, lost to FaZe Clan and stopped in the semi-finals. Now Immortals are taking part in the main qualifier for PGL Major Krakow 2017: in their first game against G2 they were close to a victory but lost during the overtime. So, the Brazilians are absolutely alright now and have got in a good shape.

Who carries Immortals?

There are two in-game leaders in Immortals at the moment: Ricardo "boltz" Prass and Lucas "steel" Lopes. After João "felps" Vasconcellos left for SK Gaming, Henrique "HEN1" Teles has become the carry of the team again. He is a stable sniper who is not afraid of playing aggressively.

Apart from the main AWP, the Brazilians can surprise with a great addition to him—the all-round player kNg can impress despite being on a trial. Both with a sniper rifle and firearms.

Immortals are unified not only by one region but also by a sibling connection: the twin brothers Henrique "HEN1" Teles and Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles play for the roster. Since the Tempo Storm times, the brothers have tried to bring a family atmosphere to the team. HEN1 keeps saying: “A team should be like a family.”
