“Quake Champion's atmosphere is just right”. All you need to know about the game that resurrected Quake

Quake Champions was conceived as a symbiosis of all legendary arena shooter's generations. Unlike Quake Live, which was just an improved version of Quake 3: Arena, the new Quake is a throwback to the roots combined with the latest trends of competetive shooters.

What changed?

In the new Quake, you're not only deciding the appearance of your character – you're choosing a unique Champion. Skillset and movement speed vary from champion to champion. This way, you kill two birds with one stone: both fast-paced gaming lovers and those who prefer more slow and methodical gameplay will be able able to immerse themselves in the hardcore atmosphere. It's important to mention that even the slowest Quake Champions are way faster than their Overwatch counterparts.

Weapons and maps haven't been changed, mostly. Everyone's favorite arenas are filled to brim not only with guns, but with armor packs, damage, and health boosters. For those familiar with original Quake, getting used to Quake Champions will be a cakewalk.

Is Quake Champions an e-sports discipline?

Surely! Professional player's and beta tester's reviews showed that Quake Champions managed to achieve a whole new level of gameplay without losing it's original, nostalgic atmosphere.

Enhanced graphics and the new set of rules for duel battles pumped Quake's entertainment level to the max. The rules are the following: before a 1 v 1 match starts, players choose three champions each. The first to defeat all opponent's champions wins.

What's so important about Champion's differences?

Ranger

Main ability – the Dire Orb. Upon activation, Ranger releases the Orb. Reactivate the ability to instantly teleport to it. Should its duration expires without reactivation, it explodes, dealing damage to the nearby Champions.

Passive ability – decreases damage received by 20%. Extremely useful for rocket jumps!

Slash

Main ability – the Plasma Trail. Use it to leave a trail - which damages all enemies standing on it - behind you. Second activation explodes the trail, killing nearby enemies.

Passive ability – you can slide by pressing the crouch button upon landing.

Nyx

Main ability – the Ghost Walk. Activate it to became invisible and invincible to any sorts of damage.

Passive ability – wall jumping.

Scalebearer

Main ability – the Bull Rush. Scalebearer rushes forward, dealing massive damage to all enemies in his path.

Passive ability – Heavyweight. Upon reaching 400 movespeed, Scalebearer will pulverize all enemies he touches. Passive's damage scales with your movement speed.

Anarki

Main ability – Health Injection. Boosts champion's movespeed for 5 seconds in addition to restoring HP.

Passive ability – you're able to change direction mid-jump.

Clutch

Main ability – the Barrier. Clutch activates an unpenetrable barrier. Every time barrier deflects a projectile, its durability decreases.

Passive ability – Still Defense. Movement without strafing or jumping accelerates the Champion.

Visor

Main ability – X-ray sight.

Passive ability – bunnyhopping has no movespeed limit.

Galena

Main ability – the Unholy Totem. Galena plants a totem which deals damage to enemies while healing teammates.

Passive ability – every time you pick up an HP booster, Unholy Totem's cooldown decreases by 5%.
